About the Project
This 5,000-square-foot, five-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath 1905 home underwent a precise and respectful renovation that preserved its original architectural charm while reworking the layout to suit the needs of a modern family. The redesign resolved inefficient floorplan quirks from previous renovations, most notably by transforming four cramped bedrooms into a gracious guest suite and a luxurious primary suite with a walk-in closet, midnight kitchen, and five-fixture bath. Removing a secondary staircase opened up space to reimagine the kitchen, which now features generous storage, a central island, an eat-in area, and a servery connecting to the dining room. In a cost-saving yet character-driven move, the original terracotta floor tile—aged to perfection—was lovingly patched and preserved. New amenities, like radiant floor heating, a steam oven, and a steam shower, were integrated with care, alongside materials like unlacquered brass and Danby and Calacatta Vagli marble that will gracefully patina over time. The result is a home that feels both elevated and authentic—elegantly updated for contemporary living while honoring the home’s historic soul.
